I recently picked up a recumbent (VisionnR44) and it has this adjuster on the derailer. I am assuming it has something to do with the chain length and making adjustments, however I have a couple questions
1. What is it supposed to do?
2. Does it actually work?
3. If it does work what is the procedure to adjust it?
4. Should I just remove it?
Thank you for any help you have.

Could it be like this? Does it have an idler wheel inside like this? I have this on my Rocket.

These devices were promoted for improving the cable alignment with the derailer and reducing drag for improved shifting. They basically prevented the cable from kinking near the derailer. I don't think that most bikes need them if they have a long, stiff, properly mounted cable housing.

It's exactly like the one in my picture
I don't know if it's like the one on your Rocket I can't view the image.

Avid rollamagic.
Does what is now standard on most derailleurs - improves cable routing.
